Villena & Villena Medieval Market
It rained.
Lots.
This ranks “up there” as one of our favourite cultural experiences in Spain. We didn´t even manage to see the jousting/ fighting in the castle!
We toured around the streets of Villena, looking at the Artisan Market stalls. We then took a peek into the Church of Santa Maria. Magical moment there with the music from the live band.
We then took ourselves around the streets adorned with theming taking you back into the middle ages. We were stopped by some friendly locals- drinks poured from jugs, followed by boiled eggs.
We stumbled across various bars- most notably Bodega El Caracol.
We ended up buying some home made Sobrasada- a spicy one and a sweet one flavoured with Roquefort cheese.
Yum.
We had lunch at Marieta Café & Picoteo– excellent.
We went on this trip with Rosa Tours- https://viajesrosatours.com/
This event is well worth doing this next year- we preferred it to the Orihuela Medieval market we did last year and the One we regularly do in Los Alcazares.
