How it all began – our first VLOG
Every journey has a beginning, and this is ours.
This is the very first vlog Andy and Helen ever filmed for the YouTube channel that you now know as Brits Living in Spain. Back then, the channel was called tdotandco (later shortened to tdot) before eventually being rebranded as Brits Living in Spain.
Filmed in 2020, as Spain was beginning to emerge from the COVID restrictions, this video captures a moment in time that can never be repeated.
Not only was this the very first step in our YouTube journey, but it was also filmed before construction began on the huge La Hoya residential development. At the time, the land behind us was open countryside. Today, that same area is being transformed into a community of more than 5,000 new homes, making this video an unexpected snapshot of the Costa Blanca before one of its biggest changes.
When we pressed record, we had no idea where this journey would lead. What started as a simple vlog has grown into a channel with thousands of subscribers, millions of views, and hundreds of videos, documenting our lives in Spain, our travels, and everything we’ve experienced along the way.
Watching this back now is both nostalgic and a little surreal. Our filming, editing and confidence in front of the camera have all changed enormously over the years, but everyone has to start somewhere—and this is where our story began.

Our first Vlog- during lockdown in Spain, just as the rules were starting to be relaxed. Not the best time, but we figured as things were relaxed, we could show people more of the areas of Spain where we lived, and how the “new normal” was being adopted and implemented.
We took the dogs for a walk locally, within the permitted times allowed and for the duration allowed and within distance limits allowed.
We also tried to introduce ourselves, a little.
